Tony Calgaret

Tony is a Ngardu man who was raised in the Bunbury region of Western Australia. Tony's father was a South Western Australian Nyungar) and his mother was a Ngardu (Aboriginal person from the Norseman area of WA).

Tony's family has a long and productive association with Aboriginal affairs in the South West of Western Australia. He has been the President and subsequently Field Officer/Manager, of the Bunbury Aboriginal Progress Association (BAPA) Tony transformed BAPA from a dysfunctional debtor, to a highly competent, well resourced, advocate for the Aboriginal people of the Bunbury area.

Tony has developed and written policy documents for the implementation of quality Aboriginal specific programs within Western Australia. The most recent are:

- Principles and Strategies to Enhance the Planning and Delivery of Services to Aboriginal People in Western Australia. A guide for Not For Profit Services Funded by the Department for Community Development;

- A framework document for the Implementation of Child Sexual Abuse Treatment Services in Western Australia.

Tony is a senior policy officer with DCP and is currently working on secondment with WACOSS for 6 months.
